New Prints From Adrian Johnson
I've not posted anything for a while as it's been all work and little play recently, but after seeing these fantastic new prints by Adrian Johnson on the Big Active blog I felt compelled to post something.
I've been a fan of Johnson's work ever since I first saw his illustrations in editions of Wallpaper and Monocle magazine; drawn to the 60's cartoon style and the "Inspector Clouseau" type characters. These new prints are fantastic, Johnson uses bold black outlines and restricted colour palettes to create what I can only describe them as "Pink Panther meets Patrick Caulfield" illustrations.
Available from his shop, as 4 colour, hand printed limited editions of 50, I suspect they will be snapped up fast, but fingers crossed he prints more.

Magpie Studios: Imagine The Possibilities
I think these eye catching illustrations by Magpie Studio in collaboration with the paper manufacturer Robert Horne are marvelous.
Commissioned for the release of a new paper range 'Imagine', Magpie were asked to create a campaign to attract us creative types and they certainly came through.
The execution is spot on; quotes about the 'nature of creativity', are combined with brilliant use of visual illusion, bold line and strong colour, creating a set of striking captivating posters.
I'm defiantly going to have to try and get hold of one some how, especially the cover illustration.

Water Colours of Stina Persson
Just re-stumbled across the work of Stina Persson today. I was first introduce to her work when working with the girls at Fluorescent PR on a some event invitations but never really looked into it again.
Wandering through her online portfolio I found myself growing to really like her style & the techniques she uses to create her illustrations.

Nice Illustration By Hort
Just been on German design agency Hort's website and found this nice illustration they produced for "Bronnt Industries Kapital". Some of the music's not really my bag, though I am thinking of buying the album just so I can get hold of the artwotk?

Refill Seven Laser Decks
Just found this of Refill Seven gallery from an old bookmark I made. The effects are created by etching designs into only seven layers of the deck's ply using a laser.
There's are a few intricate designs in there, but my favourites have to be these by Genevieve Gauckler & RinzenCheck out the gallery for more designs.

Leonor Morais
Leonor Morais was one of the links from Alexandre Farto website. I Like the abstract patterns and the Japanese print qualities of his his work and the way you can almost follow his thought process when creating his illustrations.

Suzy Q & the Owls
Just going through some old bookmarks and rediscovered the work of Suzy Wright aka Suzy Q & the Owls. She creates some really detailed, intricate and subtle illustrations with and abstract edge, that is some how typically Scottish.
First discovered her work when stumbling across the Odd One Out store on trip to Edinburgh.

Typographic Maps
Found these interesting maps on cpluv.com. The Boston & Chicago maps use carefully place type to render the cities' streets, parks, neighborhoods and coastlines.

New Weaver Fever
I've seen a lot of Mark Weaver's work around the internet, mostly on FFFFound. Although I kind of liked his technique and compositions, they have never inspired me to look deeper into his work. All Change this morning though, as I found these on his Flickr late last night
I think it's the simplicity of the silhouettes, subject matter and the subtle layering I prefer on these compared to his other illustrations.
All sold out in his shop. Just my luck, should of been a believer form the beginning.

Animals of Von
Really like this drawing by London based artist "Von". The contrast of abstract cut-outs and fine detail pencil work creates a striking, three dimensional composition. The more I view it the more detail I find. I'm going to have view one in the flesh to see if it meets up to my expectations.
Came across it in an article about his Limited Addition "Animals" Box Set on wallpaper.com. It's a real "Wallpaper" piece with exquisitely printed packaging including black wax seal. Check out his or wallpaper's sits to view more.
His website: shopvon.com and he has some other great works, including this one of Hitchcock. Most of them sold out though.

Wild Day Out (Well Afternoon)
After a hard slog at work, left early to visit the Wild Fantisies Exhibition at the stolenspaces gallery in the Old Truman Brewery. Fantastic exhibition celebrating 10 years of Don't Panic Poster illustrations, with a few gems shining through.
Especially liked the work of Gelman, D*Face, Dedass, Kam Tang, Steven Wilson and of course Mr James Joyce. Picked myself up a little unsigned print of "Success" by Steven Wilson which I plan to put up when I do actually make it!

Jame Jarvis - It's Nice That Print
Just got my James Jarvis print with my copy of It's Nice That Magazine (issue 4). This image doesn't do it justice, as the print uses both gloss and matt inks to render the black, making it a fantastic little "Jarvis" print. Size isn't everything though, just need to find a frame to fit and a place to hang it.
